Every brushstroke brings us closer to creating a space where nature’s serenity meets the warmth of home.
Today, I made the trip up to the cabin to meet the painters, who started their work just yesterday. Before heading out, we selected the perfect hardware for the kitchen cabinet makeover, feeling excited about how it would complement the space.
When I arrived, the painters greeted me with genuine excitement. They had a story to share—three deer had greeted them at the front steps earlier that morning. One of the painters, Dave, was so thrilled he showed me a video of the encounter on his phone. Their joy was contagious, and it reminded me of how special this place is. Another painter added, “You can’t hear anything here except for the quiet rustling of the wind through the trees.” I couldn’t agree more.
Walking into the cabin, I immediately noticed the transformation beginning to unfold. The primer on the wood paneling was already brightening up the space, and the wallpaper removal in the kitchen was a sight to celebrate. Dave and I took a tour of the cabin, pointing out little areas for repair. When we got to the upstairs bathroom, he described the wallpaper removal as a “nightmare.” I joked, “Will we see a wall here when you’re done, Dave?” Laughing, he reassured me, “Oh yes, don’t worry—you’ll have a wall.”
The kitchen cabinets were scheduled to be sprayed in the afternoon, but I didn’t stay for that part. I dropped off the cabinet hardware and, while walking through the bathroom, noticed a broken tile. Paying attention to every detail, I took a quick measurement, made a stop at Home Depot on my way home, and picked up a replacement tile for 74 cents. I’ll be back to fix it over the weekend.
Just as I was getting ready to leave the cabin, we had a wonderful surprise. A large group of wild turkeys appeared and began walking up the driveway! I couldn’t resist taking several photos of the scene. Moments like these make me wonder what other gifts nature will bring to Stewart’s Folly in the days ahead.
I handed the final paint colors to Dave and left, imagining what the cabin would look like once everything comes together. The thought of the transformation fills us with anticipation and joy.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Stewart’s Folly! May your days be filled with warmth, love, and a few surprises from nature too.
